Aboriginal Education Council (AEC)
Aboriginal Education Advisory Committee (AEAC)
- The Council provides strong, organized leadership for Aboriginal education with a focus on accountability related to all Aboriginal programs and services in the district.
- The Council membership is comprised of representatives from the seven Secwepemc Bands in School District #73, urban Aboriginal organizations, Aboriginal parents, Thompson Rivers University and the Board of Education.
- Responsibilities of the Council include: identifying program priorities, setting the annual Targeted Funding budget, developing the strategic plan for Aboriginal Education in the district, initiating program reviews, and preparing an Annual Report on Aboriginal Students.
- Specific initiatives undertaken by the Council include the signing of Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreements and the implementation of Secwepemc language instruction and in partnership, the development of curriculum to support Aboriginal Girls Groups.
Aboriginal Education Advisory Committee (AEAC)
- The Committee is comprised of “frontline” education professionals including: principals, Aboriginal Education Workers (AEWs), district administrators, teachers, Band Education Coordinators and other community based professionals.
- The Committee assists the Council by identifying programs and service needs, doing research, serving on project sub-committees, and providing program and budget recommendations to the Council
